Our age requirement
You must be at least 18 years old to apply for membership or use the Service in any way. This is an absolute requirement with no exceptions, regardless of jurisdiction, parental consent, or any other circumstance.
Why 18+
Favor is a dating platform built for serious, considered adult relationships. Conversations, photo exchanges, voice and video calls, and the social context of the platform are not appropriate for anyone under 18. This isn't a soft preference — it's a firm boundary that exists to protect minors and to maintain a community of accountable adult peers.
The legal foundation
Our 18+ requirement aligns with applicable laws across the jurisdictions where Favor is available, including:
- The Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 in India.
- The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO Act) in India.
- The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 in India, which provides special protections for minors.
- The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) in the United States.
- The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) provisions for children in the EU.
- Apple's App Store guidelines and Google Play policies for dating apps.
How we prevent minors from joining
We use multiple, overlapping checks to keep minors from accessing Favor. No single check is perfect, but in combination they make it extremely difficult for a minor to create or maintain an account.
Date of birth requirement at sign-up
Every applicant must provide their date of birth before completing the application. Our system calculates the age based on the date provided. Anyone whose calculated age is below 18 is blocked from creating an account — they cannot proceed past this step, regardless of other information they've provided.
Selfie verification
Selfie verification is mandatory before a profile can go live. The verification process uses AI-based liveness detection and human moderation to confirm the person matches their submitted photos. While not a perfect age check, this step often identifies obvious minors. Faces that appear clearly underage are flagged for additional review.
Photo content review
All uploaded photos pass through automated review. Photos that show clearly underage subjects, are taken in school settings, or otherwise suggest the subject is a minor are flagged and held for human review. Members whose photos suggest they may be minors are not approved until age can be confirmed through additional verification.
Profile review
Every application goes through human review before being approved. Reviewers look for signs that the applicant may be underage — references to school, university enrollment that suggests pre-18 status, photos that don't match the claimed age, language that suggests a young user, and other contextual indicators. Suspicious applications are declined or escalated for additional review.
Optional Identity Verification
Members can optionally verify their identity through government-issued ID. This is the strongest single age check we offer. We strongly encourage members to add Identity Verification, and we display the verification badge on profiles that have completed it.
How we detect minors who slip through
Despite our preventive checks, a determined minor may sometimes find ways to create an account — using a falsified date of birth, borrowed photos, or other circumvention. We have several mechanisms to detect and remove these accounts after they're created.
Community reporting
Our most powerful detection mechanism is members themselves. Anyone who suspects a member is underage can report them through the in-app reporting tool or by emailing support@favorconnect.com. Reports of suspected minors are reviewed within 4 hours — the fastest SLA we maintain for any report category.
Pattern detection in conversations
Our message-scanning systems flag patterns associated with minors, including references to school, classes, exams, age-related questions from other members, and language patterns that suggest the user may be younger than 18. Flagged accounts are escalated for human review.
Photo re-review
If new photos uploaded after account creation appear to show a minor, they're flagged automatically and the entire account is held for review pending age confirmation.
Behavioral signals
Other signals can indicate a minor on the platform — unusual usage patterns, references to parents or guardians, time-of-day patterns consistent with school schedules, and similar indicators. These don't trigger automatic action but may contribute to review when other signals are present.
What happens when we find a minor on the platform
When we determine that an account belongs to someone under 18 — through reports, our own moderation, or any other means — we take immediate action.
Suspend the account immediately, delete personal data within 30 days (retaining only what is required by law for investigations), notify appropriate authorities where mandated by law, and apply a cross-account ban to prevent the same person from creating new accounts on Favor.
Immediate suspension
As soon as we have credible information that an account belongs to a minor, we suspend the account. The user can no longer log in. Their profile is no longer visible to other members. Any pending photo requests or messages they sent are removed from other members' queues.
Data deletion
After suspension, we delete the personal data associated with the account within 30 days. This deletion is conducted in accordance with our Privacy Policy, with the following exceptions:
- Information we are legally required to retain for safety investigations.
- Information needed to enforce our cross-account ban (such as device fingerprints and payment method identifiers).
- Information requested or required by law enforcement in connection with a specific investigation.
All retained data is held separately from active account data and is accessible only to authorized personnel for legitimate purposes.
Cross-account ban
To prevent the same person from creating a new account immediately after the first is removed, we apply a cross-account ban using:
- The email address provided.
- The phone number provided (if applicable).
- The payment method (if any subscription was attempted).
- Device fingerprint identifiers.
Anyone attempting to create a new account using any of these identifiers is automatically blocked. Continued circumvention attempts may be referred to law enforcement.
Notification to authorities
Where the circumstances warrant — for example, if the minor was being targeted, exploited, or solicited by an adult on the platform — we report the matter to appropriate authorities. This includes the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in cases of suspected child sexual exploitation, and Indian authorities for matters falling under the POCSO Act or other applicable Indian law.
If an adult interacted with the minor
If we determine that an adult member knowingly interacted with a minor in inappropriate ways — sexually suggestive messages, attempts to obtain images, attempts to meet, grooming behavior, or any similar conduct — we take action against the adult member separately. This includes permanent termination of the adult account, cross-account banning, and reporting to law enforcement and child safety authorities. There are no warnings, second chances, or appeals available for this category.
Cooperation with law enforcement
Favor cooperates fully with law enforcement, child safety organizations, and regulatory authorities in matters involving the safety of minors.
What we report proactively
We proactively report the following to appropriate authorities, even without a specific request:
- Content that depicts the sexual exploitation of a minor, regardless of how it came to our attention — reported to NCMEC, Indian authorities, and other applicable bodies.
- Specific threats to identifiable minors discovered through our moderation.
- Patterns of adult members targeting minors that emerge across multiple reports.
What we share on request
In response to valid legal requests from law enforcement — including subpoenas, court orders, and emergency disclosure requests under applicable law — we provide:
- Account information for specific accounts named in the request.
- Communications and content within the scope of the request.
- Verification documents, photos, and other content held in the account.
- Logs and metadata relevant to the investigation.
We verify the legitimacy of all law enforcement requests before responding, follow applicable legal process, and notify the affected account holder where permitted by law (we do not notify if doing so would compromise an ongoing investigation involving a minor's safety).
Emergency disclosures
In situations where there is a credible threat of imminent harm to a child, we make emergency disclosures to appropriate authorities without waiting for formal legal process. We follow standard protocols for these disclosures and document them carefully.
How to report a suspected minor
If you believe a member on Favor is under 18, please report them immediately. Don't wait to be sure — let our team investigate. False reports made in good faith are not held against you. Reports that turn out to be incorrect simply result in no action being taken.
In the app (fastest)
- Open the suspected member's profile, or a chat with them.
- Tap the three-dot menu and select "Report."
- Select "Underage user" as the reason.
- Add any details that support your concern (school references, age mentions, photos that suggest they're young, etc.).
- Submit.
Once submitted, the suspected member is automatically blocked from contacting you while we investigate.
By email
For situations requiring more detail, or if you've already left the app, email support@favorconnect.com with:
- The first name and approximate age shown on their Favor profile.
- Any details you remember from your interactions.
- Screenshots, if appropriate (do not share intimate images of a minor under any circumstances).
- What made you think they might be underage.
If you've seen something more serious
If you've seen explicit content involving a minor on Favor — or anywhere else — do not download, save, share, or forward it. Report it immediately:
- To Favor at support@favorconnect.com.
- To the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (cybercrime.gov.in) — Indian residents.
- To the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (cybertipline.org) — international.
- To your local law enforcement.
Confidentiality
All reports are confidential. The reported member is never told who reported them. Your identity is shared only with law enforcement when legally required, and we'll inform you in advance where possible.
For parents and guardians
If you're a parent or guardian and you believe your child has created an account on Favor or is using the platform, please contact us immediately. We will work with you to:
- Identify and suspend the account.
- Delete the data associated with the account in accordance with our policy.
- Provide you with information about what your child shared on the platform, to the extent appropriate and legally permitted.
- Assist with any law enforcement investigations if abuse occurred.
How to contact us as a parent or guardian
Email support@favorconnect.com with the subject line "Parent inquiry — minor account." Include your name, your relationship to the child, any account details you have (email address, screen name, approximate age shown on the profile), and a description of your concern. We will respond within 24 hours.
Identity verification
Because of the sensitive nature of these requests, we may ask for documentation to verify your relationship to the minor and your right to make the request on their behalf. This is a safeguard to prevent abuse of the system — for example, by someone who is not actually the parent.
Special protections in our app design
Beyond our policy-level commitments, Favor's product is designed with specific features that protect minors should they slip through our checks.
Photo content moderation
Every photo shared on Favor — profile photos, gallery photos, selective photos, and chat photos — is automatically reviewed for prohibited content before reaching another member. Photos that depict nudity or sexual content are blocked outright. This means that even if a minor evades our other checks, they cannot send or receive sexually explicit content through the platform.
No third-party tracking
Favor does not use third-party advertising trackers, retargeting cookies, or cross-app identifiers. If a minor used the platform briefly before being detected, their data isn't being shared with advertisers or used to track them around the web.
Limited data exposure
Our minimum-data principle means we collect only what's necessary for the Service to function. There are no optional personal details we collect "just in case" — every piece of data has a defined purpose and a defined retention period.
Reporting infrastructure
Any member can report any other member in seconds. Reports involving suspected minors are reviewed within 4 hours, faster than any other report category.
Our commitments
Some commitments are worth stating explicitly:
- We do not knowingly allow minors to access or use Favor.
- We treat every credible report of a suspected minor as our highest priority.
- We act within 4 hours on reports involving suspected minors.
- We do not appeal or reverse account terminations for confirmed underage accounts.
- We do not appeal or reverse account terminations for adults who interacted inappropriately with minors.
- We cooperate fully with law enforcement on child safety matters.
- We report content depicting child sexual exploitation to NCMEC and applicable Indian authorities, regardless of how it came to our attention.
- We invest in detection technology and human moderation specifically to keep minors off the platform.
- We hold ourselves accountable to these commitments and report on them transparently where appropriate.
